Born in Woodstock, New York, Joseph Griffo has spent the last 24 years in Santa Fe, NM making art and studying art theory. His work ranges from contemporary landscapes and figure work to non-objective abstraction. His early years at the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan gave him the opportunity to study with renowned artists including Jack Whitten, Stephen Westfall, and Marilyn Minter; great modernists who helped push his explorations of the primary process and new inventions in mediums. Putting down roots in the southwest has given him much time to hone a connection with rustic, organic materials such as gypsum, wax, terra cotta, resin and graphite.
Notable exhibitions include: 2015 Select Works at City of Mud Grand Opening, Santa Fe, NM, 2011 Mining the Unconscious, Santa Fe Community Gallery; 2008 The William and Joseph Gallery, Santa Fe Solo Exhibition Kings and Queens; and a 2004 Center for Contemporary Arts Group Exhibition entitled White.
